neighbourhood
A few steps from the beautiful Luxembourg Garden, at the crossroads with Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the Montparnasse district and the Latin Quarter, this lively area attracts a lot of people. Day-to-day life is as fascinating as the monuments that decorate it. The Palais du Luxembourg is naturally the most remarkable. Constructed at the beginning of the 17th century for Marie de Medicis who was not happy at the Louvre, the building is now home to the French Senate. On the east side of the Palais, visitors can discover the Orangery, which now houses the Musée National d’Art Moderne. Restaurants, cafés and all kinds of shopping in the close neighbourhood.

› Saint Germain des Près (St.Germain-des-Prés):
This Left Bank area is fuller and livelier, its streets and cafés more crowded than when it was the forefront of the city’s intellectual life in the 1950s. The leading figures of that time have now gone and the rebellious disciples have retreated to their bourgeois backgrounds. However, new philosophers are there, the radical young thinkers who emerged from the 1960s upheavals. The area still has ...
› Luxembourg, Jardin du Luxembourg:
Many Parisians dream of living in the vicinity of the Luxembourg Gardens, a more quiet, greener and somehow more reflective place than its neighbouring areas. Luxembourg is one of the most captivating places in the capital. Its charm is in its old gateways and streets, its bookshops and in the sumptuous yet intimate gardens. Thoug...
